Fusiliers Golfing Society
The Fusiliers Golfing society played its biannual match against the club on Saturday 6th September. This match that has been played since 1912 when the Northumberland Fusiliers were given courtesy of our course while training at their Ponterwyd Camp. To commemorate their visit a silver putter was presented to the club which is played for to this day. The winner this year was Steve Evans who was presented with the putter along with a tankard given by the Fusiliers at the dinner following the match. The Captain was also presented with a Claret Jug for use at club functions, it was put to good use during the dinner. The result of the match was a win for Borth six and half Fusiliers four and half.
GB&I Curtis Cup Team for 2014
Club President Anna Hubbard and also Manager of the GB&I Curtis Cup Team for 2014. This was the second time that Anna was given this honour the first being at Nairn when the team beat the Americans in 2012, unfortunately the GB&I team did not repeat their success in 2014 however Anna was able to meet Condaleezza Rice the United States Secretary of State who is a very keen golfer playing off a handicap of 14.
A group of 14 members made the annual pilgrimage to the Captains Convention held this year at Hill Valley Golf Club in Shropshire. The two days of golf and socialising was a truly enjoyable experience which was blessed with good weather, good food and good company. The winner of the Convention Cup was Rheinallt Richards winning on the back nine from Dylan Raw Rees with a score of 34 stableford points. This was the third time that Rheinallt has won the Convention Cup joining two other three time winners John Pugh Jones and Alun Philips, the cup was first played for in 1952.
Zach has now returned to the USA to continue his studies at the University of Texas Arlington, Dallas, Texas. He is studying Accountancy/Finance as well as perusing his golf development. During his first year Zach played for the university in 8 out of 11 tournaments. Although he has only been back in Texas for two weeks Zach has already qualified to play in his first tournament of the new season from 12th to 14th September at the Ocean Golf Course, Kiawah Island, Charleston, South Carolina. The Ocean Course has in the past been the venue for the Ryder Cup in 1991 and the PGA Championship in 2012.
