Ladies Visit to Arscott Golf Club
Borth Ladies exchange visit to Arscott Golf Club
The adventure actually began in Newtown where some of the ladies competed in the Mid Wales County Golf Association ‘Senior’s Stableford’ competition at St Giles Golf Club. Three of the holiday crowd came in the prizes, with Ladies Captain, Barbara Flanagan, winning the Senior’s Trophy for best overall score on the day (34 points), presented by our very own Sue Wilson. Kathy Price and Anna Hubbard also picked up some vouchers on the day.

The holiday makers then made their way to Shropshire for the weekend break at Arscott Golf Club where eight Borth Ladies were to take over Cuckoo and Woodpecker Lodges for three nights. They were greeted by Lynette Beedles, Ladies Captain at Arscott GC, who met us with some very welcome bottles of wine and some course tips.
After a quick photo call for the MWCGA winners, the ladies settled in to their holiday lodges.

Breda and Mair admire Barbara's Trophy
On Saturday 4th June, eleven ladies played a Stableford on the beautiful parkland course of Arscott Golf Course. It was a hot, but cloudy day, and the greens were fast as lightning. The grass around the greens was a little tricky, leading to some chips making their way over the green rather than on to it! Pauline Mantle was suffering a toe injury, but bravely made it through to the 13th hole before having to succumb to the pain. Some good scores came in with Anna Hubbard taking first prize with 31 points, Mair Jenkins taking second prize with 30 points, and Karen Evans beating Barbara Flanagan on the back nine with 28 points.
We then sat down for a beautiful two course meal at the clubhouse, and a presentation afterwards.

The Saturday Group
After saying goodbye to the day visitors, Pauline Mantle, Linda Davies and Sarah Seccombe, the holiday makers (Ladies Captain Barbara, Lynda, Mair, Susan, Kathy, Breda, Karen and Anna) ambled back to the lodges to check out the hot-tubs on the balconies.
The evening progressed into a good old ‘sing song’ with the Borth Ladies covering a number of pop songs from various eras!
Having lost the jetsetter Anna Hubbard, who had to fly to Spain, the seven remaining holidaymakers took to the course once more on Sunday morning. We were met at The Clubhouse by Lynette, and another group photo opportunity arose. There were several comments about the quality of the previous night’s singing (I’ll let you decide whether they were good or bad!)

Sunday’s competition was a 4BBB with a secret ‘ghost’ player partnering Breda Roberts! Having completed the round and lost several balls to the water hazard on the 18th the ladies made their way back to the 19th hole for some much needed food and drink. We then proceeded to cheer on Andy Murray in the French Open Final against Djokovic, but sadly our cheers were not loud enough to carry him through.
Having retired to Cuckoo and Woodpecker Lodges, the ‘ghost’ was revealed to be none other than Lynda Evans.
The results of the 4BBB were Kathy and Lynda taking 1st Prize with 34 points and Barbara and Susan taking 2nd Prize with 33 points on the back 9 from everyone else!
We also had prizes on a ‘horse’ race based on individual Stableford scores. The winners were Karen Evans (owner of ‘Pooches Parlour’ ridden by Kathy Price) and Breda Roberts (owner of ‘Not David Bailey’, ridden by Mair Jenkins).
Mair Jenkins also made her directors debut with ‘A Short Film by Mair Jenkins’ which can be viewed on her Facebook page. Good luck to Mair in her new career!
And finally folks. Many thanks to all the ladies who attended the event and made it such a success. Here’s to the next one!
